Barcelona has a hugh marathon with around 17,000 runners running around the Catalan capital each year. The event is well over 30 years old with the first one taking place back in 1977.
It is a flat, circular course that starts and finishes at the Placa d'Espanya. Runners pass several monuments including the Nou Camp Stadium, Gaudi's Pedrera and his masterpiece, Segrada Familia and the Arc de Triomf. The course is characterised by many straight sections interjected with several sharp bends.
My first time for this marathon and my second ever marathon, Dublin last year being the first. Cannot recomend this event highly enough, great organisation, fantastic support all along the route giving it a great atmosphere, plenty of water and feed stations, turning onto kilometer 40, the support and drums helped to get up the last incline and round to the finish line. I knocked 25 minutes off my previous adn certainly will be back again.
