The North Wales Half Marathon was first held in 2013 and saw around 400 runners cross the finish line. Although it is a challenging route the location between the mountains and sea near Conwy is stunning and I'm sure the race will grow quickly! The midday start means that you can stay in bed a little longer too! The race HQ is at the Mulberry Bar and Restaurant where they do a cracking carvery!
The start and finish is at the Mulberry Marina which is about 1.5 miles away from Conwy. Runners start off along hard sand for 1.2 miles before joining a cycle path continuing onto Penmaenmaur and along the Promenade as far as the sailing club. Runners then head on through the village centre and past the Mountan View Pub until they reach the top of the mountain which offers stunning views before the descent back down to the finish.
Second year of this race - great experience again. More runners, I think. Friendly and well-marshalled. 5 miles fairly flat, 3.5 miles steep uphill, 1.5 miles steep downhill, then a final flat section. First and last miles on sandy beach, which is tough. May be very slightly short of 13.1
Really enjoyed this race. It's not a PB course, but the views are fabulous and the marshals were excellent. Water stations about right. Challenging climbs, even more challenging downhills means you're never bored! Hope to do it again next year.
