The Windmill Half Marathon was a popular race in the 80's before it disappeared from the racing calender. After 25 years Flyde Coast Running brought the race back and it is proving to be as popular as ever with many former participants keen to complete the course again - perhaps slightly grayer than before! The start / finish is at Fairhaven lake cafe - a great spectator friendly venue where your supporters can grab a nice cold drink and watch you whizz past.
A fast two lap course on a pancake flat seafront promenade. If you're after a pb this could be the course to get it on - as long as the wind is favourable.Race Website
Good run however was disappointed that we didn't get timing chips and nobody knew where the start was going to be...
We was told that emails were sent and the Facebook page had made all runners aware of the timing chips...on checking the Facebook page the information was still as we had been told...that timing chips were to be worn on your shoes...(spoke to many runners and they were of the same view, many printing off instructions the night before).
When we found out where the start was, we spoke to to event organiser who told us that timing chips were not provided as the suppliers were going to charge them £3+ and they had only charged us runners £1.35!!! So they thought (in his words) "sod it"!!!
Apart from that, it was a good route (although my run app put it at 13.3 miles) and a good run. Was nice to get a wagon wheel at the end as well as a banana.
