Istanbul is located on the Bosphorus peninsula and is the only city that straddles two continents. It is an intoxicating place that embraces both western and eastern cultures. The Istanbul marathon is the biggest race in Turkey and has grown significantly since it was first run back in 1979.
The course is mostly flat and starts in Asia before quickly crossing the Bosphorus Bridge into the European side of the city where the vast majority of the race takes place. The race finishes close to the sultanahmet mosque.
