The Venice marathon was first held back in 1986. It has grown considerably since then and has been awarded the prestigious IAAF silver Label. The whole city is a World Heritage Site - a collection of 118 small islands linked together by its famous canals and bridges.
A fast and flat course which starts in Stra - a small country town around 25km west of Venice. Runners pass Riviera del Brenta, a beautiful riverside area characterised by numberous 18th century villas, then through Marghera and Mestre before enjoying a further 2km inside the San Giulianao's Park. Venice is reached via Liberty Bridge as the race continues through the renovated port area, finishing in Riva Sette Martini and the picturesque waterfront of St. Mark's Basin.
